An Overview of Clinical Applications of Prosthetics & Orthotics.
Presented By: Jonathan Batzdorff, CPO, FAAOP

Level of Instruction: This one hour course is aimed at physicians who encounter patients requiring prosthetic  devices.  It will provide both a general and basic review of the terminology as well as a more detailed discussion of the functional options and prescription criteria.

Course Format: This presentation will be a PowerPoint lecture accompanied by demonstration. It will conclude with oral questions and answers.  Participants will be asked to complete an evaluation form at the conclusion of the course.

About the Instructor: Jon Batzdorff is a certified prosthetist and orthotist and clinical director of Sierra Orthopedic Laboratory, which he founded in Santa Rosa, California.  Previously he taught at the UCLA Prosthetics/Orthotics Program and has lectured extensively on basic and advanced technology to physicians, and therapists. He is an examiner for the ABC national prosthetics exam. Mr. Batzdorff is also President of ProsthetiKa, a non-profit organization which provides free hands on clinical and technical training in developing countries.

• How to write a HCFA-Acceptable Prosthetic Prescription
• Assessing Amputee Functional Levels, I to IV
• Measuring Prosthetic Patient Outcomes

Program Schedule

The program will consist of a one-hour class covering the following material:

• Introduction and review of current prosthetic socket, knee and foot technology including function and prescription criteria
• New technology in prosthetic design including elevate vacuum technology, microprocessor knees, and gel interface materials
• Prescription format
• Patient assessment pre and post prosthetic fitting and training
